Temple of Karnak
The avenue of ram-headed sphinxes marks the north gate to the Great Temple
of Karnak. Within Karnak is the Temple of Amen-Re. Amen-Re was the patron
god of Thebes and this temple was the most important in the kingdom.
Consequently, each pharoah enlarged and embellished it as evidence of his
faith. Within the temple is the Hypostyle Hall, reputedly the largest hall
(50,000 square feet) of any temple in the world. |
