Biography
I was born in Rome, Italy in 1959.  In 1983 I received my M.D. degree followed by specialty training and work in Cardiac Surgery in France, UK and Italy.  In 1992 I moved to Novara, Italy
(about 30 minutes
west of Milan), where I am registrar in Cardiac Surgery in the Public Hospital. As a cardiac surgeon I have performed over 1000 operations on adults.  My favourites are Beating Heart Coronary Artery Bypass Grafting and mitral valve repair.  I also hold specialties in Forensic Medicine  and Criminology

I married my wife Maria in 1990 and have three sons --  Silvia (1992), Marco (1993) and Fabrizio (1996).  Some of my hobbies are Chess, Bridge, and stamp collecting.  My favourite sports are: soccer (I’m a “Roma Footbal Club Hooligan”!), rugby, diving and mountain climbing.

At age 11 I read “Astronomy” by Patrick Moore and soon started observing with a small 60mm refractor: Moon, Jupiter and Saturn were revealed to me.  Through the years I have owned an 8-inch SCT, 10-inch RC and 110 mm APO refractor.  I starting working with  CCD’s in 1996.  My first camera was a SXR Starlight Xpress, then a HX5 SX and now a SBIG ST8XE.  My astroimaging is done at 1500 meter altitude at Valle D’Aosta, a northern Italian region famous for its mountains (Monte Bianco, Monte Rosa, Cervino...).  I have many friends in astrophotography and am a member of “Gruppo Astrofili Cinesello Balsamo” (GACB).
