Fish On The Platter (B144) and B145
This image of Fish On The Platter (B144), B145, Sharpless-109,
Sharpless-101 and Cygnus X-1 shows a beautiful and astrophysically
intriguing region of the night sky that is rarely photographed in detail.
Barnard-144 is a dark nebula embedded in the Cygnus Star Cloud and lies
just east of the Great Rift. At the top of the image (north) is the triangular
shaped dark nebula B145. Red Hydrogen-alpha emission nebulosity
insinuates the upper 2/3 of the image. This complex nebulosity represents
the southern portion of the nebula Sharpless-109. The small red oval at
the lower right of center is the nebula Sharpless-101. Further to the
lower right is the bright star 21-Cygni. Between Sharpless-101 and this
star lies the x-ray source and black hole candidate Cygnus X-1.

Photographic Data: An Astrophysics 130 mm f/6 EDF refractor and
Pentax 6x7 camera were used with unhypered Kodak Pro 400 PPF-120
film. Two 45-minute exposures were made while centered at RA 20 hrs,
03 min and Declination +35.8 degrees. The field of view is 4.5 x 3.6
degrees and north is up. A composite image was made in the computer.
