IC 2948/44
IC 2948 (Running Chicken Nebula) is a 66' x 42'emission nebula located at RA 11 hrs, 37 minutes, Dec.63.3 degrees South in the southern constellation of Centaurus. It is slightly larger than M8, but rarely photographed or seen in books. It surrounds open cluster IC 2944 and is approximately 7 degrees west of the Coal Sack . Several dark brown Bok Globules are seen within the nebula.
 
Photographic Data:  In February, 1996 a single 60-minute exposure was made through an Astrophysics 130 mm f/6 EDF refractor with hypersensitized Fujicolor HG 400 film (35 mm) from the Carnegie Las Campanas Observatory in Chile.  The nebula's center is at RA 11 hrs, 38 min and Declination -63 degrees.  The field of view is 1.25 x 1.0
degree.  North is is up.
