A camel is a popular way to tour the
great pyramids of Khufu (Cheops), Kheophren (Cheophren )
and Menkaru (Mycerinus). Khufu (Cheops),
10 miles southwest of Cairo, is the oldest and
largest and was erected about 2690 B.C. Its original height was 481 feet
and its base
covered
13 acres. Kheopheren, Khufu's son, built the second and slightly
smaller of the
large pyramids about 2650 B.C. The third built is the smallest
of the
three and was erected
in about 2600 B.C. for Pharoah Menkaru.
