Mykonos, Greece --
harbor
Mykonos
is part of the Cyclades
island group, found in
the Aegean Sea,
south-east of the
mainland of Greece. It
spans an area of
41 sq mi and rises to an
elevation of 341 m
(1,119 ft). There
are about 9 thousand
inhabitants most of whom
live in the largest
town, Mykonos, also
known as Chora,
on the west coast.
It is believed that the island was named after a local hero, who is considered an offspring of the god Apollo and was worshipped locally in antiquity. Top attractions: Petros the Pelican, Windmills (seen in the background pictured above), Little Venice, Paraportiani church, Aegean Maritime Museum, nearby Delos island, night-life and luxury shopping.
