The Bay of Plenty has some of the most beautiful beaches on
the East Coast of New Zealand. Because of
its temperate
climate, it offers good conditions for farming, particularly
citrus and kiwifruit. The cities of note near the Bay of
Plenty are Tauranga -- the largest export port in
New Zealand, Rotorua -- known for
its geysers, thermal area
and Maori culture and
Whakatane -- deep sea fishing. The region lies within the
Taupo Volcanic Zone with black
sand beaches and the active off-shore volcano, White Island. |
