The Church of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem is one of the holiest places in Christendom. The Roman Emperor Constantine built it in the 4th century A.D. over the site of the crucifixion and tomb of Jesus Christ. It is a twin-domed church. The smaller dome is over the site of crucifixion (Golgotha or Calvary) and the larger dome over Christ's tomb ("the Edicule"). |
