Nyatapole Temple in Bhaktapur, Nepal
This temple has a pagoda with 5 tiers and is located in Taumadi Square. It
is the tallest temple in the Kathmandu Valley, standing just under 100
feet. The temple was built in honor of the tantric goddess known as Siddi
Lakshmi and has five pairs of protective guardians on either side of the
stairs as you ascend to the main platform. These stone guardians are
depicted as mythological creatures, animals and Malla wrestlers. As you
climb the stairs, the ornate Newari wood carvings on the roof struts
become clearer and you can hear the temple wind chimes. |
