Plymouth --
exploration and embarkation
Most Americans are familiar with Plymouth
Rock in Massachusetts where the Pilgrims landed in 1620. I have even
visited Plymouth Rock, which is south of Boston. However, in order to
really see the history of the event I visited Plymouth England on my first
visit to England. Plymouth is a gem of a city rarely visited by the
American tourist. It is a famous seaport located in southwest England and
was my gateway to St. Ives, Penzance and Lands End in extreme western
England. The main point of interest is Plymouth Hoe. This is the center of
naval activity and exploration. This is where both Sir Frances Drake and
the Pilgrim's Mayflower sailed. Besides its history the area is quite
scenic with beautiful flowered gardens and seascapes.
