Clouds
A Cloud on earth is a
condensations of water and other
particles in the atmosphere. They are formed by the saturation of air with
water when it cools or gains water vapor. The science of clouds is
nephology a branch of meteorology. Cloud types have Latin names
formally proposed in December 1802 as
Luke Howard
nomenclature and became the basis of a modern international system of
classification.
The popular names for the five physical types are:
.
Stratus (low-level with horizontal layering)
Stratocumulus (low-level, lumpy layer)
Cirrus (thin, wispy and elongate above 18,000 ft)
Cumulus (low-level puffy or cotton-like)
Cumulonimbus (a dense towering vertical "rain-cloud")
.
